L.A. Dodgers: Busy Offseason. Run It Back.
Months after capturing the World Series title, the Los Angeles Dodgers are showing no signs of slowing down as they set their sights on a back-to-back championship in 2025. Dodgers management has been relentless, working to bolster their roster, cut dead weight, and surround their highest-paid superstar, Shohei Ohtani, with even more talent. As expected, LA is once again positioned to be one of MLB’s highest-spending teams, projected to exceed $265 million in payroll for the 2025 season.
The past week has been eventful in the front office, as the Dodgers have inked several key deals to reinforce their roster. Among the notable signings:
- Blake Treinen (RHP, 2-Year, $22M Contract)
Treinen, the Dodgers’ top strikeout leader in 2024, was a key bullpen weapon in their World Series-winning campaign. In 50 appearances, he struck out 56 batters and proved to be their highest-leverage reliever. Treinen also shined in the postseason, posting a 2.19 ERA in 9 appearances, with 18 strikeouts in 12 2/3 innings. - Michael Conforto (OF, 1-Year, $17M Contract)
After missing out on Tyler O’Neill, who signed a 3-year, $49.5M deal with the Orioles, the Dodgers pivoted to former Giants outfielder Michael Conforto. Last season, Conforto hit .237/.309/.450 with 66 RBIs and 20 home runs. LA is also looking to re-sign free agent Teoscar Hernández, who was a solid contributor at the plate with 67 base hits and 33 home runs in 2024. - Tommy Edman (NLCS MVP, 5-Year, $74M Contract Extension)
The 2024 NLCS MVP is staying put, as LA locked him in for five more seasons. His clutch performances last season were a huge factor in the Dodgers’ championship run. - Blake Snell (LHP, 5-Year, $182M Contract)
One of the biggest signings of the offseason, Snell is coming off another dominant year, and his addition further strengthens LA’s already elite rotation.
More Moves on the Horizon
The Dodgers aren’t done yet, as they continue to prioritize bullpen depth alongside Blake Treinen. One key name on their radar is 30-year-old left-handed reliever Tanner Scott, a dominant force against elite left-handed hitters like Freddie Freeman and Shohei Ohtani.
Another major storyline is Japanese phenom Roki Sasaki, who has officially opened his 45-day signing window, giving MLB teams until January 23rd to sign him. Sasaki dominated in 2024 with a 2.35 ERA in 18 games for Chiba Lotte, racking up 129 strikeouts and just 32 walks. His top choice is the Dodgers, with the San Diego Padres as his second option.
With a strong offseason already in motion and more moves likely on the way, the Dodgers are setting themselves up for another deep playoff run in 2025.
