As if the Colorado Rockies couldn’t get any worse, this ball club continues to set records for all of the wrong reasons, and I’m sure every member of the team from the players all the way up to management can’t wait until this atrocious excuse of a season comes to an end. This has to be the longest second half of a season that any modern sports team in history has had to endure, as they now sit dead last in the entire league at 30-87.
It was only yesterday that the Rockies ended another game with a meltdown as the Arizona Diamondbacks destroyed them to complete another series sweep. It’s almost like they intentionally gave Arizona a blatant opportunity to dog walk them and had Adrian Del Castillo crack three hits, including a three-run HR, serving the Rockies their 7th straight loss. Not to mention, the Diamondbacks set a franchise record against the Rockies, having 9 consecutive 2-out hits in an “8-run” 5th inning that sent the Rockies packing taking another loss 13-6.
Coors Field was once one of the best stadiums in the MLB to go enjoy watching some great players perform on what has always been a mediocre ball club, but it is now a “Baseball Graveyard” where careers go to die. There have been a few select Rockies fans showing up all season with paper bags over their heads, just to make their way up to the Party Deck to down beers in misery and use their ticket stubs for discounted entries into other local sports bar establishments.
For at least a decade, every Rockies fan in Denver has been begging the Monfort’s to sell the team for the simple fact that there has been zero change having every single talented player eventually leave or request a trade to play somewhere other than Colorado. The Colorado Rockies are the only professional franchise that hasn’t celebrated a championship, and Rockies fans deserve at least one with what they’ve gone through for the past 30 plus years.
Recently, the Rockies have called up a few young studs such as Kyle Karros, Dugan Darnell, Yanquiel Fernandez, and Ryan Ritter. But with the quality of baseball that this club has been playing, it must feel like getting called up to play for another farm team in a pro stadium. Management must find a way to help these young athletes out, because we’ve seen this story play out way too many times where talented ball players come and go to reach success with another team.
