Just another day in the office for Nathan MacKinnon that has the hockey world in awe, as “The Dogg” reached new heights gaining traction as the all-time points leader in franchise history for the Colorado Avalanche with “The Great” Joe Sakic. During the 2nd period, Martin Necas logged the games first goal that was perfectly set up and assisted by MacKinnon that recorded his 1,016th career point during his 871st game against his former Stanley Cup teammate and currently Kings goaltender Darcy Kuemper.
One of the most interesting facts about MacKinnon’s 1,015th point is that it took place during his 870th game. The timing is identical to the pace that Joe Sakic logged his 1,105th point. And now MacKinnon has cleared that line. The odds of that happening is slim to none, and being tied with Joe Sakic in any category is an incredible accomplishment but breaking it at the same pace is astonishing on all levels.
MacKinnon isn’t slowing down now on his 3rd consecutive year hitting the 100-point mark, consistently having his name in almost all conversations as one of the greatest current players in the NHL. Nate “The Great” is on a clear path to break Joe Sakic’s all-time franchise high career points mark at 1,641 points if he continues to consistently dominate the entire league at 30 years of age.
