Remember when Colorado’s biggest problem was needing a long-term goalie? Well now that will no longer be an issue now that the Avalanche are satisfied enough with Scott Wedgewood’s performance as of lately, that they have decided to extend his contract for another year.
Today, Wedgewood happily signed a one-year contract extension for $2.5 million that’ll run through the 2026-27 season.
Wedgie has earned his check after having a very impressive start to the season. He has started 14 games and as a starter is (10-1-2) as the NHL best current goalie with a (.913) SV%, and a (2.26) goals-against average.
Wedgewood will take a breather giving Mackenzie Blackwood his third start of the season and his first start at home.
Roster Changes:
Tonight, Colorado will have a few changes in the lineup. Sam Girard is now active and has returned to the lineup on the 3rd defensive pairing after missing the last 15 games of the season due to injury, and Cale Makar’s younger brother Taylor Makar got the call to play on the fourth line.
Valeria Nichushkin is now listed on the injured reserve list with a lower body injury that he suffered against the Anaheim Ducks that’ll move Gavin Brindley up to fill the void on the second line. Brindley has been proving his worth and will look to keep producing at a good pace after signing a two-year extension for $875,000 a couple days ago.
