The Takeover Tour has four cities left to go before the PWHL Playoffs begin. Calgary, New York, Edmonton, and Boston are the last few stops. The most recent tour game played was in Hockeytown Detroit, MI for the fourth time in the city. This time between the New York Sirens vs Montréal Victoire where fans showed up in droves and both teams didn’t disappoint. Abby Roque was clearly one of the fan favorites on the ice and made an immediate impact contributing to Montréal’s 3-1 victory, giving the fans exactly what they came to see. Saturday’s attendance had record number 15,938 fans, which is the most that Detroit has seen since the league started the PWHL Tour.
1st place Boston Fleet (13-5-2-4) have been wrecking crew all year long and just became the first team in the league to 50 points and to claim their spot in the playoffs. Goaltender Amanda Thiele, got her first start and debut for Boston against the Minnesota Frost and blocked 21 of 23 shots securing her first win in net. Great showing for her going against a team that has half of the Top 10 PWHL points leaders on their roster, including Kelly Panneck who just put herself in the 50 Point Club.
Boston is also the fastest team to claim their playoff spot in PWHL history. Easy to do when you have Olympic gold medalist Aerin Frankel in net who has been a wall for Boston all season long. Frankel had a great week and was one of the 3 Stars of The Week with 2 GP, 53 Saves, and 2 S/O. Aerin’s nine period stretch allowing zero goals was impressive to say the least. That is a 180-minutes, which set another PWHL record for the longest shutout streak in the league’s history. Before the regular season ends, there will surely be a few other records broken by Boston’s talented players.
